Varanasi: 335 IMEI numbers used for cybercrime operations have been deactivated and 654 mobile phones blacklisted by the Varanasi commissionerate's cybercrime squad.

During a meeting on Tuesday night to examine the operations of the Cyber Crime Cell, these facts were submitted to Commissioner of Police Mohit Agrawal. Following an assessment of the cell's accomplishments, the Commissioner requested the required improvements to address cybercrime, which is the largest problem facing law enforcement.

Officials from the cyber cell detailed their activities, which included deactivating 335 IMEI numbers linked to cybercrime and barring 654 mobile numbers.  Additionally, they said that 84 crooks and scammers running six phony contact centers had been arrested, that three gangs had been registered, and that their members had been booked under the Gangsters Act.  In addition, victims of cybercrime received a total of Rs 2,15,46,638 back.

To increase awareness of cybercrime, the cybercrime unit also organized 291 cyber awareness programs at public spaces, colleges, and schools over the course of the last three months, reaching 38,524 people in total.  The Commissioner thereafter spoke about issues like the status of complaints about cybercrime, portal data updates, efficient use of technology, and prompt action against cybercriminals.  The Commissioner asked the cell to keep a close eye on the NCRP's complaint handling process.
