The "digital arrest" of a retired colonel: Chandigarh cyber police detain three additional suspects
In relation to the 'digital arrest' scam, two guys had already been taken into custody by the Chandigarh Police's cybercrime division.

The Chandigarh Police's cybercrime squad has detained three additional individuals connected to a well-known cyber fraud case, bringing the total number of arrests to five in the continuing probe into the "digital arrest" of a retired colonel. According to the allegations, Dalip Singh Bajwa of Sector 2A, Chandigarh, was forced to transfer an incredible Rs 3.41 crore.
Residents of Sirsa, Haryana, Avtar Singh, 21, Amritpal Singh, 25, and Sunil Kumar, 24, are the three people who were taken into custody. Mahak Yadav, 25, of Mohindergarh, Haryana, and Sachin Sharma, 23, of Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, had previously been taken into custody by the police.
Police sources claim that Avtar Singh was persuaded to create an account with IndusInd Bank by Amritpal Singh and Sunil Kumar. A portion of the Rs 9.40 lakh that was stolen from the complainant was subsequently transferred to this account. After withdrawing the cash, the two gave the remaining amount to Sachin Sharma and Mahak Yadav while keeping 1% as commission.
On March 18, scammers allegedly targeted Sector 2A homeowners Dalip Singh, 82, and his wife Ranvinder Kaur, 74. The hoax started when an international number called and said Singh was involved in a money laundering case involving Naresh Goyal, a businessman who was imprisoned. Singh was essentially placed under a "digital arrest" by the scammers, who used fictitious documents and threats of arrest to keep him on a constant video connection, according to the police.
Singh was allegedly forced to transfer large sums of money—Rs 8 lakh, Rs 60 lakh, Rs 80 lakh, Rs 88 lakh, and Rs 1.05 crore—into various accounts that the con artists had provided over the course of several days. According to the authorities, the scammers contacted the couple using a variety of phone lines and used false legal threats to keep them under constant pressure.
