Police said that the victim was singled out by unknown people who threatened to reveal private footage unless he sent Rs 31,500.  He committed suicide due to ongoing mental stress, which prompted an immediate police inquiry.

The offenders were tracked down in several locations by Meerut Zone cyber commando Sachin Dhama.  The primary defendant, Saddam, son of Sapat, who lived in Palwal, Haryana's Village Khaika, was taken into custody and placed under judicial remand.  Two more people from the same hamlet, Mubarik, son of Saddiq, and Sahoon, son of Asraf, are also involved and are being sought.

Suraj Rai, SP Bagpat, disclosed that the accused were using 45 rented rooms spread over 11 villages to take advantage of young people who were easily manipulated by a fake app that promised paid "one-minute sessions."  Usually, the scheme progressed from phishing to extortion.  Investigators discovered that the offenders were about 20 years old, mostly with a high school education, and extremely well-organized.

"We are enhancing our proficiency in identifying, looking into, and prosecuting cybercrime cases," stated Bhanu Bhaskar, ADG Meerut Zone.  Under the direction of DGP Rajeev Krishna, a Cyber BK Singh, we are concentrating on thorough training and capacity building, as demonstrated by the Baghpat case.  Additionally, we urge the public to heed UP Police alerts and refrain from clicking on links from unreliable or unauthenticated sources.
