LUCKNOW: A woman from Indira Nagar, Lucknow, has been charged for defrauding several ladies out of lakhs of rupees by feigning to throw cat parties and making up the fact that her husband was an IAS officer. Police have filed a formal report against the accused, Rashmi Singh, in response to victim complaints.
How the Deception Was Performed
Rashmi reportedly used her cat party network to target other women, including the wives of businesswomen. By becoming friends with them, inviting them to her opulent home, and giving them token gifts to establish her credentials, she was able to win their trust. After promising them significant returns, Rashmi convinced them to invest in mutual funds or the Kitty Party, ultimately defrauding them of substantial sums of money.
The Fraud Revealed
Rashmi herself reported the scam to the police on March 24, claiming that some ladies had stolen blank cheques from her house and were abusing them. But as the inquiry progressed, it became clear that Rashmi was behind the scam. The victims went to the DCP and filed a formal complaint against her.
Fraud of Rs 2 Crore with 10 Victims
According to the victims, Rashmi defrauded ten ladies out of almost Rs 2 crore. According to one victim, she was defrauded of Rs 18 lakh, of which only Rs 5 lakh was reimbursed. Rashmi allegedly threatened her when she asked for the remaining sum.
A Luxurious Way of Living with Social Media Presence
Rashmi owned a number of expensive cars and a luxurious property in Bal Vihar Colony that was outfitted with CCTV. She actively flaunted her high-profile lifestyle on social media to impress her targets.
Concerns Are Voiced by Society Members
Secretary Dinesh Pratap Singh Baghel and other members of her society saw that Rashmi rarely interacted with her neighbors. Suspicions, however, increased after other women complained about lost money.
CCTV Recordings Show Previous Conduct
The society's CCTV footage showed Rashmi acting inappropriately toward her guards, indicating a pattern of dubious behavior. Investigations are being conducted into the FIR that has been filed against her, according to Indira Nagar ACP Aniruddh Vikram Singh.
