610 Lost Mobiles Worth ₹1.5 Crore Returned to Owners in Annamayya

The Annamayya District Police on Friday (September 26, 2025) handed over recovered property worth ₹1.5 crore, including 610 mobile phones, one laptop, and one tablet, to their rightful owners. The event was organized as part of the eighth phase of the “Mobile Recovery Mela” at the District Police Office.

Record Recovery Drive

Briefing the media, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli said that the recoveries were made between July and September by special teams from the Cyber Crime & Social Media Wing, Technical Analysis Unit, and the Mobile Recovery Team.

“This initiative has helped return a record 2,237 devices worth about ₹4.6 crore to their owners so far. It reflects the commitment of Annamayya Police towards public service and cyber safety,” the SP stated.

The “Mobile Recovery Mela” has been an ongoing campaign by the district police, aimed at tracing lost and stolen digital devices and reuniting them with their owners. The initiative has gained appreciation from citizens across the state for its transparency and effectiveness.

District-Wise Data

During this phase, Rayachoti town reported the highest number of lost mobiles at 119, followed by Madanapalle (116), Pullampet (92), and Railway Kodur (67).
Interestingly, several of the lost phones were traced beyond district borders and recovered from states such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Bihar, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh.

Public Awareness and Advisory

The SP urged the public to make use of official complaint channels like the LMTS WhatsApp helpline (8688830012) and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal to report lost or stolen devices without delay.

He also issued a strong advisory:

  • Citizens should avoid purchasing second-hand devices without valid bills or proof of ownership.

  • In case of loss, users must block SIM cards immediately.

  • Banking and financial apps linked to the device should be disabled at once.

  • Victims should inform the police promptly to minimize the risk of cyber fraud or misuse.

Impact of the Initiative

The “Mobile Recovery Mela” has emerged as one of the most effective community outreach and cyber safety programs in the district. By combining technical analysis, cyber tracking tools, and inter-district coordination, the Annamayya Police have been able to restore valuable devices to thousands of families.

For many victims, the recovery not only saves financial loss but also restores personal data, family memories, and digital records that are often more valuable than the device itself.
