Case 8 - Mule Accounts
Nitin Kumar received a cyber fraud notice after large fraudulent transactions were traced to a bank account opened in his name. He had earlier been approached by a man who convinced him to open the account in exchange for a 20% commission from game earnings. Nitin handed over the ATM card and received small payments for a few days before losing contact with the man. The account was later shut down due to multiple fraud complaints. Nitin now struggles to prove his innocence, having unknowingly allowed his account to be misused.

The Bangalore Cyber Police sent a notice to Nitin Kumar's home one day, stating that a significant amount of fraudulent money had been transferred in the bank account 125××××××78555 IFSC UBN05856 registered in his name. As a result, he was charged in numerous cases. Nitin now recalls that someone had visited his shop and opened a bank account, promising to deposit the game's proceeds and give him a 20% commission. At his request, Nitin opened a bank account and provided the man with its ATM and other amenities.
Over the course of a few days, the individual consistently meets Nitin at a crossroads and gives him a thousand or two thousand rupees.A few days later, the individual no longer sees Nitin. Nitin disregards him as well. Upon receiving the notification, Nitin visits his bank. When he enquires about the bank account, he discovers that it has been closed because of numerous complaints of cyber fraud, an extremely low balance, and numerous transactions that occur there every day.
Nitin now finds it difficult to demonstrate that he did not manage the account, that he gave the ATM card to someone out of avarice, or that the bank account was formed by deceiving him by withholding information. Because Nitin did not even know the person who had asked him to open the account.
