MHA Deactivates 6 Lakh Numbers and Steps Up Battle Against Digital Arrests
The Indian government has taken strong steps to protect residents from the growing threat of cybercrime, especially digital arrests and online fraud.
Important Steps:
Deactivation of Mobile Numbers: To hinder the activities of scammers, more than six lakh mobile numbers connected to cybercrimes have been canceled.
App Blocking: 709 harmful mobile applications that endanger user security have been found and blacklisted by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
Device Blacklisting: Roughly 110,000 cell phones linked to cybercrime have been placed on a blacklist, which prevents them from working.
Bank Account Freezing: To reduce financial losses, around 3.25 lakh fictitious bank accounts linked to cybercrime have been frozen.
The Prime Minister's Request:
In his "Mann Ki Baat" speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the growing worry over digital arrests. He alerted the public to the strategies used by cybercriminals to frighten and coerce victims into disclosing private information. To avoid becoming victims of such fraudulent acts, the Prime Minister advised the public to be cautious and to live by the motto "Ruko-Soch-Action Lo" (Stop-Think-Take Action).
The Coordinated Government Reaction:
The I4C has reached out to state police departments in order to better tackle the problem, encouraging cooperation and coordination in the investigation and prevention of cybercrimes. The overall efforts to guarantee a thorough and effective response to these problems are being supervised by the Special Secretary for Internal Security.
