Punjab Cyber Police Dismantle a Phishing Website Scam; Arrest the Mastermind

Gaurav Kumar, the creator of a phony website that mimicked the official portal of the Punjab Government's Mining Department, has been taken into custody by the Punjab State Cyber Crime Division. The accused allegedly granted false mining permits, enabling illicit mining operations and costing the state exchequer between Rs 40 and Rs 50 lakh.

According to investigations, Kumar and a mining entrepreneur conspired to create and disseminate more than 2,000 fictitious licenses by cloning the official website. These fake documents, which were integrated with barcodes and QR codes, were made to evade security checks and permit mining vehicles to operate without authorization. To make the transactions look authentic, the accused's strategy included forging mining permits, impersonating the official website, and producing fake receipts. In addition to enabling illicit mining, this illicit activity cost the government a significant amount of money.

In order to reveal the entire scope of the fraud network, officials are carrying out additional investigations after registering a First Information Report (FIR). Important digital evidence was found by police during the raid, including a database of forged invoices, a backup of the fraudulent website, pictures of cars engaged in illicit mining, information about the origins and destinations of mining materials, and the computer equipment used in the crime. Through its cybercrime unit, the Punjab Police have reaffirmed their dedication to protecting online communities and combating cybercrime. The Cyber Crime Punjab team is always on guard and works around the clock to stop financial crimes and online scams. As the investigation continues, more arrests and actions against other participants in the fraudulent operation are anticipated.
