Haryana Police, in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has launched a special campaign against illegal, objectionable, and misleading social media content. Over 2,052 links and profiles were identified, with major action taken under the Information Technology Act, 2000. A parallel drive targeting fake trading and investment apps aims to curb rising digital fraud cases and strengthen online safety.

Haryana Police Strengthens Action Against Illegal and Misleading Online 

Chandigarh: In a decisive step toward ensuring Digital Safety and maintaining Public Order, the Haryana Police has intensified its crackdown on Illegal, Objectionable, and Misleading Content across social media and digital platforms.

Over the past month, specialized cyber teams have actively monitored online activities and reported 2,052 suspicious links and profiles. As part of the enforcement drive, 1,616 instances of harmful content have been successfully removed or blocked, while 436 links are currently under review, with further action in progress.

The campaign is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, reinforcing the government's broader mission of building a Safe, Transparent, and Accountable Digital Ecosystem.

Authorities clarified that the focus remains on content containing Misinformation, Provocative Language, Fake Narratives, and Socially Disruptive Material. Legal notices are being issued to platforms under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act 2000, ensuring that intermediaries comply with regulations in a Time-Bound and Strict Manner.

In response to the growing threat of Online Investment Frauds, a separate drive targeting Fake Trading and Investment Applications was launched on January 12, 2026, under the direction of Director General of Police Ajay Singhal. The initiative aims to curb financial scams and safeguard citizens from digital exploitation.

DGP Singhal emphasized that Social Media Influences Every Section of Society, and any form of Inflammatory or False Content can seriously threaten communal harmony. He warned that Strict Legal Action would be taken against individuals spreading such material.

Citizens have been urged to:

  • Avoid Clicking on Suspicious Links

  • Verify Apps Before Investing Money

  • Report Cyber Fraud Immediately

In case of any digital fraud, individuals should contact the Cyber Helpline 1930 or register complaints via the National Cyber Crime Portal.

The primary objective of this initiative is to create a Secure, Responsible, and Trustworthy Digital Environment. With continued Public Awareness and Cooperation, authorities remain confident that the campaign will significantly reduce cyber threats and strengthen online safety across the state.
