Major Cybercrime Cases Uncovered

1. ₹1.34 Crore Fake Trading App Scam

In a major case of online trading fraud, the Cyber Crime Police uncovered a scam involving a forged trading application named “NUVAPRO.” The accused lured the victim through a social media advertisement and added them to a fraudulent WhatsApp group titled ‘Nuvama Wealth Stock Market Think Tank.’

By projecting fake investment experts, manipulated trading dashboards, and false claims of upper-circuit stocks, block trades, and IPO allotments, the accused gained the victim’s trust and caused a wrongful loss of ₹1,34,68,788.

The investigation revealed that the stolen money was routed through shell companies and multiple bank accounts to layer and conceal the proceeds of crime. Two individuals were arrested for creating shell firms and providing bank accounts to cybercriminals in return for commission.

2. ₹2.13 Crore Fake Trading and Crypto Investment Scam

In another significant case, the police registered an offence involving online trading and crypto investment fraud, leading to a loss of ₹2.13 crore. The victim was initially contacted through Facebook, after which communication was shifted to WhatsApp for continuous grooming and trust-building.

The accused shared a forged trading website and added the victim to a fake trading group displaying manipulated profits and institutional trading benefits. The victim was repeatedly induced to invest, including funds obtained through personal loans.

Later, the accused introduced fake IPO buyback claims, blocked all withdrawals, and demanded upfront commission and charges. Soon after, communication ceased and the trading group became inactive. Two accused were arrested for supplying bank accounts to a cybercrime syndicate.
