A Key Member of a Cambodia-Based Cyber Slavery and Crypto Fraud Syndicate Is Arrested by Odisha Police
An important member of a global cybercrime organization based in Cambodia has been captured by Rourkela Police. The syndicate is connected to a number of cybercrimes, such as human trafficking and cryptocurrency fraud. This operation is a major step in breaking up the cyber slavery network, with 14 arrests already this year.

In a spectacular operation, Rourkela Police have apprehended a key figure in a global cybercrime gang. The accused participated in a vast network of illicit enterprises, such as cryptocurrency fraud, human trafficking, and cyberslavery, that operated out of Cambodia and Southeast Asia. Under the direction of SP Rourkela, the operation represents a significant turning point in the fight against international cybercrime.
After a top central government official filed a charge about theft totaling Rs 67.7 lakh, the inquiry got underway. A fraudulent trading software posed as Indira Securities, a genuine SEBI-registered company, was used in the scam. Investigators linked the scam to a global organization with a network that included numerous Southeast Asian nations as the case progressed.
Since January 2024, 14 people have been arrested, many of them are directly operating out of Cambodia. The group used cutting-edge methods and tools to defraud victims through cryptocurrency exchanges and websites like Binance.
Due to its connections to human trafficking, cryptocurrency frauds, stock market fraud, and cyberslavery, the case has major global ramifications. Because of passport restrictions or financial extortion by the organization, thousands of I
ndian victims were ensnared in these crimes and were unable to return home. The racket recruited Indian students with the lure of high-paying IT jobs using pre-activated SIM cards, mule bank accounts, and local agents, only to utilize them in cybercrime activities.
The arrest of a senior syndicate member who was instrumental in providing resources and overseeing a group of con artists was the breakthrough. During the operation, the police also found a lot of evidence, including:
Ten mobile phones and eight pen drives
14 debit and credit cards
Rs 22,000 in cash
Aadhaar cards, passports, checkbooks, passbooks, and other forms of identity
Notes of foreign exchange from Cambodia, the US, and Nepal
Pay attention to technical support and circulars.
Over 15 members of the syndicate were the targets of Look Out Circulars (LOCs) issued by the authorities in an effort to stop its extensive operations. Important technical assistance for the inquiry was also provided by organizations such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Bureau of Immigration, and the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C).
With assistance from the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Crime Branch of Odisha, the Rourkela Police were instrumental in this operation. Their initiatives demonstrate the value of interagency and cross-border cooperation in combating organized cybercrime networks.
The inquiry is still ongoing to determine the scope of the syndicate's activities and find further participants. To stop similar occurrences in the future, authorities have underlined the necessity of stronger laws and increased public awareness.
