Noida: MNC's India branch is defrauded of ₹3.52 cr via cyber fraud
The complainant claimed that a WhatsApp message requesting a money transfer to a client was sent to one of their firm's directors by an unknown number.

According to police on Sunday, a cybercriminal posing as another director of a US-based corporation defrauded the Indian branch of the company of ₹3.52 crore on March 26. A case has been filed at the cybercrime branch police station, and ₹52 lakh has been frozen in the account.
According to the police, the complainant, a representative of the Sector 63 administrative office in Noida, reported the event on behalf of the victim director. The complainant stated that one of the directors of their company had received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number requesting a money transfer to a client.

Police claim that after disclosing a few bank account information, the scammer forced the victim director to send ₹3.52 crore in several installments.
However, the FIR noted that the true director, whose name was being used by the scam, called the victim director right away after seeing the transactions, which made him realize that a fraud had occurred.
The situation was later reported on the cybercrime branch website, and the banks were notified. "On Friday, we filed a complaint at the cybercrime branch police station under sections 318(4) (cheating) and 319(2) (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act. To date, ₹52 lakh has been successfully confiscated. The station house officer for the cybercrime branch, Ranjeet Singh, stated that efforts are underway to collect additional funds and apprehend the suspects.
There are more than 15 branches worldwide from the Atlanta headquarters. Sector 63 in Noida is home to its branch for the Delhi National Capital Region.
